A Step-by-Step Guide to Installing Windows 10 from a Bootable USB Drive
Installing Windows 10 on a fresh computer is a straightforward process that can be completed with just a few simple steps. In this article, we’ll guide you through the process of creating and using a bootable USB drive to install Windows 10, also known as a Rufus.
What You Need:
- A computer with Internet access
- A blank USB drive (at least 2GB in size)
- A Rufus tool installed on your computer (download from the official website or other reliable sources)
- A working internet connection for activation and setup
Step 1: Prepare Your Computer
Before you begin, make sure your computer is clean and free of any viruses. You’ll also need to disconnect all cables and peripherals connected to your computer.
Step 2: Create a Bootable USB Drive
Download the Rufus tool from the official website or other reliable sources. Make sure to download the correct version for your Windows 10 installation (64-bit). Once downloaded, follow these steps:
- Open Rufus in your computer’s file explorer.
- Select the blank USB drive as the destination and select the format type as GPT (Gigabyte-Partition Table).
- Choose the Windows 10 ISO file you want to install from.
Step 3: Boot from the USB Drive
Insert the blank USB drive into your computer, making sure it’s recognized by your operating system. You’ll see a boot screen with options for booting from the USB drive. Select “USB Drive” and then choose “Boot”.
The Rufus tool will now begin to format the USB drive and create a bootable installation media.
Step 4: Set Up Your Computer
Once the installation process is complete, you’ll be asked to set up your computer for installation. Follow these steps:
- Select your language, time zone, and keyboard layout.
- Choose a display device for the installer (Monitor, TV, etc.).
- Enter your Windows product key.
Step 5: Install Windows 10
The final step is to install Windows 10 on your computer. This will take about 30-40 minutes depending on your internet speed.
Once you’ve completed all the steps, you can use your newly installed Windows 10 operating system. To activate it for a full lifetime, make sure to enter your product key during the first reboot.
